It happens quietly, a hundred times a day, in every office in the world. Someone needs to combine two contracts before a meeting, shrink a scanned statement to fit an email, or turn a signed agreement into one clean file. They open a browser, choose the first free tool that appears, and upload the document without a second thought.

In that single moment, a private file belonging to a company, a client, or a person becomes a copy on a stranger's server. Most of the time nothing goes wrong. But the file has already left the one place it was ever truly safe: the owner's own device.

We built PDFMergely so that moment never has to cost anyone anything.

Where the idea began

Our founder spent years as a Chief Technology Officer, moving between organizations and watching the same scene repeat itself. Careful, capable people, the kind who lock their laptops and shred their paperwork, would hand confidential documents to websites they knew nothing about, simply because those websites were convenient.

No policy ever seemed to change it. Reminders faded. The habit stayed. So instead of writing another warning that nobody would read, the answer became clear: build a tool that removes the risk entirely, rather than asking people to remember it.

The first version was made for a single organization. It was a quiet set of PDF tools that did everything the popular sites did, without ever sending a file anywhere. It worked. Word travelled, and other organizations asked to use it too. And once something this useful exists behind closed doors, keeping it there starts to feel wrong. So we opened the doors, made it free, and made it for everyone.

Your files never leave your hands

This is the promise the entire product is built on, so we will be precise about how it is kept.

Every PDFMergely tool runs entirely inside your browser. The work is done on your own device using WebAssembly and Web Workers, the same technologies that power modern web applications. There is no upload disguised as something safer, because there is no upload at all. Your file is never sent to us, never stored on a server, and never seen by another person, for the simple reason that it never leaves your computer. Many of the tools keep working even after you go offline.

And you never have to take our word for it. A live counter on every tool shows a running total of exactly zero bytes uploaded, and anyone can open their browser's network activity and watch the same truth unfold. Privacy you can verify will always be worth more than privacy you are asked to believe.

The people behind the promise

Today, PDFMergely is built and cared for by a team of five. We are able to keep every tool completely free, with no accounts, no limits, and no paid tier, because a partner organization has committed to funding our first two years. That support keeps our attention exactly where it belongs: on making the tools better, never on finding ways to profit from your documents.

We maintain the site continuously, study how each tool performs, and research and add new ones based on what people genuinely need. This is not something we launched and walked away from. It is something we intend to keep earning trust in, release after release.
