No. The tables are detected by your browser from the PDF’s own text layer, so the document never leaves your device. Most online PDF-to-Excel converters upload your file; this one does not.
How does it find tables without uploading them to a server?+
It reads the position of every piece of text on the page and reconstructs the grid from the geometry: text on the same line becomes a row, and consistent gaps between columns become the cell boundaries. That analysis runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers in your spreadsheets never touch a server.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?+
Not directly. A scan is an image with no text layer, so there is no text geometry to read. Run the scan through OCR PDF first to add a text layer, then convert the result here.
What kinds of tables work best?+
Tables laid out with real columns of selectable text, separated by whitespace, convert most cleanly, with one worksheet per table. Very complex tables, merged cells, or tables drawn only with ruled lines and no whitespace gaps may need a quick tidy-up in your spreadsheet app. Right-aligned number columns can occasionally shift a cell; this improves as the detector does.
What if it finds no tables?+
If the PDF has no tabular text layout, the tool tells you rather than downloading a blank file. For plain running text, PDF to Text or PDF to Word is the better fit; for scans, run OCR PDF first.
