Download the unsigned copy, built on your device. Your original file is untouched.

Why remove a signature in your browser?

A digitally signed PDF is almost always a contract, an agreement or an official record, the last thing you want to upload to a stranger's server just to edit it. Removing the signature locally means the document, the signer's details and everything in it stay on your device.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a digital signature and a drawn signature?+

A drawn or typed signature is just an image placed on the page. A digital signature is a cryptographic, certificate-based seal that proves who signed and that the file was not altered. This tool removes the cryptographic kind; use the Edit or Redact tool to cover a drawn one.

Is it legal to remove a digital signature?+

Removing a signature from a document you own, or one you signed yourself, is generally fine, for example to revise a draft you signed too early. Removing someone else’s signature from an executed agreement can amount to document tampering or fraud. The tool asks you to confirm you have the right before it runs.

Is my signed document uploaded?+

No. Signed PDFs are usually contracts, exactly the kind of file you should not hand to an online server. Everything here runs in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.

What exactly gets removed?+

The signature form fields and their on-page appearance widgets, the certification (DocMDP) seal if present, and the signature validation store. The visible page content is not changed.

Will the PDF still show as certified afterwards?+

No. Removing the signature deletes its cryptographic seal, so PDF readers will treat the downloaded copy as a normal, unsigned document. That is the point, but it also means the proof of signing is gone from that copy.

Can I remove a signature from a password-protected PDF?+

Unlock it first with the Unlock PDF tool (you need the password), then remove the signature here.

Does it work offline?+

Yes. After the first visit the tool keeps working with no connection, because all processing is local.
