Make a double-sided business card

Front for the name, back for everything else, and no detail printed twice.

Printing the back of a card costs very little and doubles the room, which is why most decent cards use it. The mistake is repeating the contact details on both sides, so neither side reads cleanly. Every design here pairs a front with its own back: the brand or the name on the front, and the person with the contact details on the back, laid out differently so the two sides never look the same.

How to make a double-sided business card

  1. 1

    Pick a design

Eight designs, from a dark textured front with a white details back to a hairline card with a QR code. Each has a matching back.

  2. 2

    Check both sides

The preview shows the front and the back together at real size. For a one-sided card, print the details side alone.

  3. 3

    Download both sides

The PDF contains front and back as two pages, which is what a printer wants for a double-sided job.

Why the front should stay quiet

A card that has to be read carefully has failed. Name and company large on the front, everything else on the back, is the arrangement that reads in the second someone actually gives it.

A QR code for the back

A contact card QR code puts your details into a phone in one scan, which is the best use of the space.

Frequently asked questions

Should the back be a colour block?+

A solid colour back looks smart and is cheap to print, but it needs bleed. If you are printing at home, a white back is more forgiving.

What should go on the back?+

A QR code to your contact card or website, your services in three words, a second language, or simply the logo with room to breathe. Not a repeat of the front.

How does the printer handle two pages?+

Page one is the front and page two is the back. That is the normal convention, and worth saying in your email to them anyway.

Is anything uploaded?+

No. Both sides are drawn in your browser.
