Which barcode type should I use?+
For products sold in shops, use the number your GS1 membership gave you: EAN-13 in most of the world, UPC-A in the US and Canada. For cartons and cases, ITF-14. For your own labels (stock codes, asset tags, serial numbers, library or file labels), Code 128: it takes any text and is compact. Code 39 is for older systems that ask for it by name.
What happens if a value is wrong?+
It is listed with its line number and the reason, and left out until you fix it. A barcode that scans as the wrong number is worse than none, so nothing is quietly changed. If you give an EAN-13, UPC-A or ITF-14 number without its last digit, the check digit is calculated and added, and the tool says so. If the last digit is there but wrong, it is flagged, with the digit it should be.
Which label sheets does it support?+
Common Avery sizes: L7160 (21 per A4 sheet), L7651 (65 per A4 sheet), L7163 (14 per A4 sheet), 5160 (30 per Letter sheet) and 5167 (80 per Letter sheet), plus a custom layout where you set the page, columns, rows, label size, margins and gaps. You can skip labels already used on a part-used sheet.
Will the barcodes scan once printed?+
The label sheet is a vector PDF, so bars stay sharp at any printer resolution. Print at 100% (actual size), not "fit to page". If a barcode has to shrink to fit its label, the tool tells you by how much, and warns when it is below the size most scanners and retail standards accept. Always test-scan one before printing a large batch.
What is a module width and a quiet zone?+
The module is the narrowest bar. Wider modules make a bigger barcode that is easier to scan; 0.33 mm is the standard size for EAN and UPC. The quiet zone is the blank margin each side that scanners need to find where the barcode starts. Keep the defaults unless your printer or label requires otherwise.
Can I import from Excel?+
Save the sheet as CSV and import it, then choose which column holds the values and which (if any) holds the captions. Or copy two columns straight from the spreadsheet and paste them: the value and caption arrive separated by a tab, which the tool understands.
Is my list uploaded?+
No. Barcodes are drawn in your browser and the files are made on your device. Product lists and asset registers stay private.
