Make a rent receipt
Month, amount, property and landlord, on a receipt your employer will accept.
Rent receipts are asked for twice: by tenants who need them to claim house rent allowance, and by landlords who should be issuing them anyway. What matters is that each receipt names the period it covers, the property, the amount in figures and words, and the landlord, signed. Making a set of twelve takes a few minutes here, one month at a time, all on your own device.

A receipt covering a whole year in one line is usually rejected. Change the period and the date, and download each month separately.

The landlord signs. Print and sign, or add a signature to the PDF.
Why one receipt per month
Payroll teams check that the receipts match the months claimed. A single annual receipt tells them nothing about when rent was paid, which is why it usually comes back.
Frequently asked questions
What does an HRA claim usually need?+
Receipts naming the period, the amount, the property and the landlord, signed. Above certain annual rent thresholds the landlord tax number is also required. Check your employer checklist and the current rules, which change.
Can I make receipts for past months?+
You can produce receipts for rent that was actually paid, and the date on each should be the date of that payment. Creating receipts for rent that was never paid is fraud, not paperwork.
Does it need a revenue stamp?+
In some places a stamp is expected on cash receipts above a threshold. Rules vary, so check what applies where you are.
