A visiting card here is usually 90 by 50 millimetres, a little wider and slimmer than the 85 by 55 European card. Designing at the wrong size means the press trims your phone number off, which is discovered after five hundred are printed. This starts at the right size, keeps the text a safe distance from the trim, and gives the press a PDF with bleed and crop marks.

How to make a visiting card

  1. 1

    Choose the India size

It is 90 by 50 mm, a common size across Nepal and India. The preview shows the real proportions.

  2. 2

    Fill in your details once

Name, designation, firm, mobile, email and address. The design puts the brand on the front and the details on the back.

  3. 3

    Download with crop marks

Send the PDF with bleed and crop marks to the press. They will know exactly what to do with it.

Why the size is worth getting right

A card in the wrong size is either trimmed into the content or sits awkwardly in every card holder it is put into. Starting at the local standard removes both problems at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

What is bleed and why does the press want it?+

Bleed is a few millimetres of background beyond the trim line, so that a slightly off cut still shows colour rather than a white edge. Every printer expects it on a card with a coloured background.

Can I put my name in Devanagari?+

Not as PDF text, because the built-in fonts cannot draw it. Put the Devanagari name in the logo image, or ask the press to set it, and type the romanised name in the fields.

How many do I need?+

Presses here usually price in hundreds. Order a hundred first and check the cut and the colour before committing to a thousand.

Are my details uploaded?+

No, everything is generated on your device.
