Make a Nepali tax invoice
The printed VAT bill, drawn as the printers draw it.
A Nepali tax invoice has a recognisable shape: the seller name and PAN at the top with the PAN written into its own boxes, a ruled table of goods with an H.S. Code column, VAT at 13 percent under the sub total, and the amount written out in words at the bottom. This draws that bill rather than a generic invoice with a tax line, so what you hand over looks like what everybody here expects to receive.
How to make a Nepali tax invoice
- 1
Choose Nepal
The whole form changes: the title becomes Tax Invoice, VAT is 13 percent, the currency is rupees and the PAN boxes appear.
- 2
Fill in the parties and items
Your business with its PAN, the customer with theirs, then the goods with quantity, rate and H.S. Code where the item needs one.
- 3
Check the words line and download
The total is written out in words with lakh and crore, which is what the bill needs. Then download the PDF.
Why the layout matters here
A bill that does not look like a Nepali bill gets questioned by the customer accountant before anybody reads the numbers. Matching the familiar printed form is most of the job.
Your letterhead too
The same details make a letterhead for quotations and letters, with the PAN and registration number in the footer.
Frequently asked questions
What if my business is registered for PAN but not VAT?+
Choose PAN bill. It charges no VAT, is titled Invoice rather than Tax Invoice, and the foot runs straight from the gross amount and any discount to the total, with no taxable value or VAT rows. The printed form keeps the same shape otherwise.
Is the VAT rate always 13 percent?+
Standard rated supplies are 13 percent. Exports and certain goods are zero rated, and some supplies are exempt, which is a different thing from zero rated. Set the rate per line, and check with your accountant which applies.
Do I have to show the H.S. Code?+
It is expected on invoices for goods, particularly imported goods. The column is there and can be left empty on lines where it does not apply, such as services.
Can I print my name in Devanagari?+
The PDF fonts cannot draw Devanagari, and you are told plainly which characters were dropped rather than finding out later. Put a Nepali-script name in your logo image and type the romanised name.
Is this a registered billing system?+
No. It produces a correctly laid out PDF invoice. If your turnover requires software registered with the Inland Revenue Department, use that system for the official series and this for quotes and one-off bills.
